Some Star Trek series are soon to be leaving Netflix

AUGUST 29, 2021 - If you count on Netflix for your Star Trek fix, brace yourself: three of the franchise series have been confirmed to be leaving the streaming service at the end of September, Decider.com reports. September 30th will be the last day to stream Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise on Netflix, inviting speculation that ViacomCBS could be moving to consolidate all franchise shows under the Paramount+ banner.

When Paramount+ launched in 2014 (as CBS All Access), Star Trek was one of the flagship properties available on the fledgling streaming service, which offered every available iteration of the show. At the time, license holder CBS was three years into a deal with Netflix to stream all the live-action franchise shows, with Star Trek: The Animated Series joining Netflix two years later in 2016.

When The Animated Series left Netflix in December 2019, it signaled a popular shift away from the streaming service. TrekMovie.com reports that Star Trek has been a huge draw for Netflix, with Voyager being the most-rewatched of the franchise series. They note that this move towards synergy between popular shows and studio streaming services has picked up speed recently, with Friends becoming an HBOMax exclusive and The Office moving from Netflix to the new NBC service Peacock.

Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine are still available on Netflix, though, so if that’s your streamer of choice there’s still Trek to be had. But if you want the full catalog of shows in one handy place, Paramount+ is your only home for the complete Star Trek universe.
