Star Trek Delta Shield Black Men’s Socks from Cufflinks.com

DECEMBER 5, 2021 - I’m a sucker for novelty socks, even more so when they’re Star Trek novelty socks - so when Cufflinks.com asked me to review their officially-licensed Star Trek Delta Shield men’s dress socks…well of course I said yes!

The Socks

Cufflinks.com’s Delta Shield men’s dress socks come in three colorways: command yellow, operations red and science blue. You can buy them as a single pair of any color, or as a set of three. They’re one size fits most, up to a US men’s 12 shoe. They’re 87% cotton, 8% nylon and 5% spandex. These are dress socks, not like athletic socks, they’re soft and silky to the touch, lightweight without being see-through, and while they’re not padded, they do feature a thicker toe, which should help with longevity.

These socks rise to mid-calf and feel soft on your skin. They would work perfectly under a pair of trousers for a subtle flash of Trek fandom on a busy work day.

The Price

These socks are priced in the mid-range, and comparable to other big-brand novelty socks. At the time of this review, single pairs were available for $19.50, and the gift set for $55.00 on the Cufflinks.com website. That places them more expensive than basic dress socks (a multipack from Target generally runs under $20), about on par with other Star Trek-branded socks, and cheaper than a luxury dress sock (Brooks Brothers patterned dress socks run about $25/pair).

At sub-$20 for a single pair and a better deal when you guy three together, these socks are priced attractively for holiday or birthday gifts.

Overall

I’m biased towards novelty socks, but these are still a winner. What makes Cufflinks.com’s Delta Shield socks stand out is that they’re good quality, they have the “ooooh” factor, and they’re a classy take on a novelty sock. These will be great for people who regularly wear slacks or pant suits to work. They’re probably not, however, for those who only ever wear trainers; they won’t be thick enough or durable enough for athletics.

Overall, I would recommend these as an ideal gift for a Star Trek fan who wants to show off their fandom in an understated way.
