NYC Away Team Social: Saturday, May 21

The NYC Away Team and Friends will be hosting an Away Team social this Saturday. Gather with Trekkies! Costumes encouraged, never required! Meet new friends and chat about Trek! The social is happening at McHale’s Bar & Grill, in New York City. Attendees should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Head over to Eventbrite for the details and free registration.

Taylor Family Induction: Saturday, May 21

The progressive-education Harmony School, in Bloomington Indiana, will be inducting Jeri Taylor and family into its Hall of Honor on Saturday. Taylor wrote and produced on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, and her siblings attended the school when it was known as Elm Heights. Kathryn Janeway, of future Bloomington, will also be inducted as a future alumna. The induction is open to the public and will also be available to stream. Jerry Goldsmith Score Discussion: Saturday, May 21

Also this Saturday, at 3:00pm ET, there will be an online discussion of Jerry Goldsmith’s score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, hosted by the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (ASMAC). Registration for the Zoom-based event is free and available at Eventbrite.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture: The Director’s Edition: Sunday, May 22; Monday, May 23; Wednesday, May 24

Next Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday the Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture could be coming to a theater near you. This will be the first time that director Robert Wise’s cut of the film will be shown on the big screen in its restored and remastered format, with enhanced visual effects.   • These are the Twitter watchalongs:

    • #allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.

    • #TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of The Original Series every week, and

    • #StarTrekHour is a Q&A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.

  • Then there’s Star Trek: Watch Party, hosted daily and coordinated on Facebook. Every evening, they use the Teleparty browser extension to watch Star Trek together. To find out more, head over to Star Trek: Watch Party on Facebook.

  • Speaking of a Star Trek watch party: the iBlind Users Group hosts Trekkie Talk on the first and third Thursdays of every month. They watch an audio descriptive version of a Star Trek episode and get together virtually to discuss it. To find out how to join in, visit ibugtoday.com/trekkie-talk.

  • But wait, there’s more watch partying: Club IDIC hosts a weekly watch party and discussion at 6pm Alberta Time every Friday. The schedule and Zoom links are available at the Club IDIC Facebook page.

  • To Proudly Go, a New York-based nonprofit, will be hosting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1 viewing parties each Saturday. The gatherings begin at 6:00pm ET at the Barracuda Lounge in New York City. Tickets are free, and vaccination is required. The viewing parties also include Star Trek trivia games, special Star Trek-themed drag performances, two-for-one drinks, fabulous Star Trek prizes, and merchandise.   • Virtual Trek Con presents The Main Viewer every Tuesday - a live discussion show on YT with occasional special guests and an open chat geared towards fan interaction.

  • Disco Does DnD - livestream DnD game with DSC actors on Twitch, every Sunday at 1pmPT/4pmET.

  • And finally, there’s Sid City Social Club, hosted by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Alexander Siddig’s official fan website. They meet twice monthly on the first Tuesday and third Friday of every month, with occasional pop-up meetings with Sid as his schedule allows.
