SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 - It’s been five months since the then-untitled Star Trek: Voyager documentary rocketed to the top spot in the universe of crowdfunded documentaries with a record-breaking $1.3 million raised through Indiegogo. Now fans worldwide are getting their first sneak-peek of the project, titled To The Journey, with a video released on YouTube this past Monday.

The three-minute preview was first shown at the 55-Year Mission convention in Vegas during a panel discussion of the documentary, as TrekMovie.com reports. Producer and director David Zappone said at the time that they had already completed quite a few interviews, with still more to come. In the video we see a fast-paced montage of some of the featured guests, including Voyager cast members Robert Beltran and Tim Russ. Still, Zappone promises the documentary will be more than talking heads, and that they are hard at work tracking down footage and behind-the-scenes material, including one long-lost treasure: “I am looking for the infamous blooper reel. We are looking everywhere for that,” he said.

With the huge success of the crowd-funding effort, Zappone also hopes to bring something special to the documentary that was also a significant part of their Deep Space Nine documentary. “We are planning to upres—hopefully,” he said, “the original 35 millimeter [film] like we did with What We Left Behind.” With Voyager’s effects having been shot on video instead of film, a high-definition version of the entire series is unlikely, but Zappone and his crew proved it could be done with their remastered DS9 footage, and fans are hopeful Voyager will look just as good.

Although the crowdfunding campaign ended in April, you can still support To The Journey and catch up on all the latest production news by visiting their website, voyagerdocumentary.com
