A new biopic about Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is in the works
AUGUST 24, 2021 - He was a fighter pilot and a police officer with the LAPD before he became a TV writer and, of course, what we all know him for: the creator of Star Trek. And now plans are underway for his own feature biopic.
Gene Roddenberry, whose 100th birthday was celebrated last week, will be the subject of such a film. According to Deadline, Roddenberry Entertainment has been “working quietly” on the project, which has a script by Adam Mazer.
Producers of the film include Gene’s son, Rod Roddenberry, and fellow executive producer of all the active Star Trek series, Trevor Roth. They noted that Gene Roddenberry “was an incredibly complex, compelling man, whose work changed the face of television, and whose ideas changed the world. It’s time to share Gene’s story with audiences everywhere.”
Mazer cowrote the screenplay for Breach and wrote the screenplays for Empire State as well as You Don’t Know Jack, for which he won an Emmy Award.
A director and actors are yet to be named for the project.
