A New Model Kit of the Galileo 7 Is Out from AMT Polar Lights
FEBRUARY 8, 2023 – Star Trek fans will remember the introduction of the Galileo 7 shuttlecraft in the Star Trek: The Original Series season one episode … you guessed it … “The Galileo Seven.” If you are a present or former model builder, you might also remember the 1/25 scale model kit that came out from AMT (which also built the full scale and miniature Galileo 7s for the series) in 1975 – along with that model’s inaccuracies. Things have evolved, though, since 1975, according to TrekMovie.
The original model kit and a 2020 update, which improved on the exterior in order to better match the screen version of the shuttlecraft, both lacked an interior. Now a model kit is out from AMT Polar Lights that includes the interior of the craft.
“The complete kit includes a whopping 160 parts, including interior walls and floor that allow the whole thing to be assembled as a separate unit that can then be slid into the partially assembled exterior. (The floor even includes the little open piping bay where Scotty drains the phasers in “The Galileo Seven.”)”
The kit also comes with seven crew figures, though “[r]ather than reproducing the characters from “The Galileo Seven,” the new kit puts the whole bridge crew on the Galileo—Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scott, Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura.”
The kit is intended for more experienced modelers, requiring model glue, tools, and paint and is available from Amazon.
