Adil Hussain Speaks of His “Privilege” in Being Cast in Star Trek: Discovery

Indian actor Adil Hussain is one of the new faces of Star Trek: Discovery season three. In the latest trailer, unveiled at New York Comic Con, Hussain is the character that Commander Burnham and newcomer Book meet, in a clean white office with a hidden Federation flag. He says to the pair, “I watch this office every day, believing that my hope was not in vain.” Now, Hussain has spoken about his “privilege” in being part of the cast of Discovery.

Speaking to IndiaToday, Hussain said, “It's an extremely privileged position, I would say. Being [among the] very few people from India to be a part of Star Trek. I am grateful to my agent and also I am very grateful to the directors who'd selected me. [I am] extremely happy to be a part of it.”

Hussain is a prolific actor in his home country of India, and Western audiences will recognize him for his role as Santosh Patel, Pi’s father in the Ang Lee-directed Life of Pi. Sadly, he can’t give us any hints about what his role will be in the new season, except for what we’ve seen in the trailer. He told IndiaToday, “I have signed an NDA, so I can say that it's a fantastic role. And, I am in the space.”

Star Trek: Discovery season three is now filming in Toronto, and expected to premiere in late 2020.
