Anson Mount talks about when he found out about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
JUNE 11, 2022 - In a new interview with Esquire published earlier this week, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds lead actor Anson Mount let loose on all sides of the series, and where he sees it heading in the future.
Aside from discussing his fantastic hair, Anson Mount told Esquire that he had previously “been in discussion with [Akiva Goldsman] about Season One [of Star Trek: Discovery] for Captain Lorca.” He went on to say, “They hired Jason Isaacs, which I would have as well, but then they thought, ‘Well, maybe Anson will fit in this one, for Pike.’ And that worked.”
Even so, Mount was - at that time - unaware that conversations were in the works for a series featuring the first captain of the Enterprise. Mount remarked, “It was interesting that they were clearly making a tremendous expenditure for the Enterprise bridge set.” He went on to suggest that he and his co-stars Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck felt it was a shame to waste the money on a set that wouldn’t be in use for long. How wrong they were.
During the production of Star Trek: Short Treks, Mount contacted Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman to “talk about something innocuous.” “I don’t even remember what it was,” he said. “He phoned me back two days later and said, ‘Hey, I think we got a show.’ They were originally going to try to fast-track it, but then of course the pandemic hit.”
It took some time, but Strange New Worlds has proved that what is meant to be, is meant to be.
