Australian Stan to Stream Paramount Movies, Including Star Trek

Australia’s Stan streaming video-on-demand service

Australian streaming video-on-demand service Stan has signed a multi-year deal with Paramount TV, which will bring Star Trek films to the platform.

A piece from TrekToday explains that in addition to Star Trek, the deal will include other franchises as well, including Transformers, Mission Impossible and The Godfather trilogy. The CEO of Stan, Mike Sneesby, said “Paramount has built a fantastic slate of premium scripted television series in addition to their iconic box office blockbusters, legendary film franchises and library of classics. We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Paramount under this new long-term output agreement as part of our ongoing commitment to bring the world’s greatest TV series and movies to Australians.”

Likewise, Paramount TV sees an upside too: Jonathan Greenberg, the senior vice president of regional sales for the Asia Pacific region, said of the deal: “We are extremely pleased to continue working with Stan with this long term deal to bring some of Paramount Television‘s most anticipated new shows exclusively to the service’s discriminating subscribers.”

Stan already has content licensing deals with the likes of Sony Pictures, ABC, BBC Worldwide and Warner Brothers, as well as with Paramount’s siblings CBS, Showtime and Viacom. It’s unclear how the deal might be affected by the upcoming CBS and Viacom merger. Star Trek television series and the Kelvin Timeline films are already available to stream in Australia on Netflix.
