“Axanar: The Gathering Storm” Trailer Released
Controversial Fan Film Axanar has released a new trailer for its upcoming production, Axanar: The Gathering Storm.
The trailer starts with vintage footage of early space travel, before transitioning to a sweeping shot of the starship U.S.S. Ares, travelling at speed through a star field. Cut to an internal view of the Ares’s bridge, at red alert, and we get our first look at the crew, before pulling back out to see that the Ares is being pursued by a Klingon D7 battlecruiser through an asteroid belt. Details are few in this minute-long trailer.
The “Axanar” production is perhaps one of Star Trek’s best-known and most controversial fan productions. Between its short, “Prelude to Axanar” and the proposed full-length feature film “Axanar”, creator Alec Peters and his team raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. But in December of 2015, Peters and Axanar were sued by CBS and Paramount for copyright infringement and production stopped.
In early 2017, however, the parties settled the suit and Axanar was allowed to continue with their production, as long as it met the newly-created Star Trek fan film guidelines of no more than two episodes of 15 minutes each. Filming on the new productions reportedly started in early October, at Ares Studios in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
