NOVEMBER 5, 2020 - Blu del Barrio will appear in Star Trek: Discovery season four.

The actor made a splash last week in the Discovery season three episode “People of Earth”, as Star Trek’s first non-binary character played by a non-binary actor. While there’s been a little confusion over their character’s introduction - namely, that they used she/her pronouns in the episode - largely, their reception has been warm.

Now, thanks to a new interview published on Forbes.com last week, del Barrio has confirmed that they are in Toronto for production on Discovery season four. Among other things, the Forbes interview covered what del Barrio does in their spare time, as well as their aspirations for future projects beyond acting in Star Trek. Del Barrio said that outside of acting, they’re “very introverted”, and enjoy photography, and playing D & D. They are, in their own words, “a big nerd.” Eventually, they’d like to work in independent films.

While discussing del Barrio’s extracurricular activities, interviewer Dawn Ennis mentioned that Discovery season four had been greenlit. Del Barrio said, “Yes. Yeah, I’m in Toronto right now, actually.”

Interviewer Ennis and del Barrio didn’t discuss season four any further, so technically we can’t even say for sure what character they’ll be playing. But given the significance of the Adira character to the Trek fandom, and their early reception, it’s reasonable to assume that they’ll be sticking around past the end of Star Trek: Discovery season three.

If you’d like to catch up on Adira’s introduction, as well as the latest episode of Discovery, you can do so on CBS All Access; episode four, “Forget Me Not”, is streaming now.
