CBS Reveals New Star Trek: Picard Trailer at San Diego Comic Con

CBS has dropped a brand-new trailer for Star Trek: Picard, and with it, a ton of new information about the upcoming series.

In the trailer, we get early looks at all the new cast members we already knew about: Michelle Hurd as Raffi, Santiago Cabrera as Cristobal Rios, Alison Pill (no relation) as Dr. Agnes Jurati, Evan Evagora as Elnor (a Romulan), Harry Treadaway as Narek (another Romulan) and Isa Briones as the mysterious Dahj. There’s something special about Dahj, something that leads her to Picard, and something that leads an unknown man near the end of the trailer to proclaim, “She’s the end of all. She’s the destroyer.” Picard seems to feel obligated to help her, and he’ll enlist a crew of people to help him, and they don’t appear to be working strictly within Starfleet’s rules.

We knew to expect more details around the plot, and we expected to get a first look at our newest cast members, but the new trailer also threw in two familiar faces that no one was expecting: the return of Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine, and Brent Spiner, as the android, B4. In Hall H, they showed the trailer twice, and at the first appearance of Jeri Ryan on screen, the crowd went wild. So wild, in fact they nearly missed the final scene showing Captain Picard and B4 playing cards. You can imagine the reaction of the crowd when Brent Spiner - appropriately de-aged, appeared on screen. They played the trailer twice, and the second time Sir Patrick Stewart asked the crowd to hold their reactions, saying “If you can hold your enthusiasm until the very end of the trailer, it means that you might pick up a little bit more than you did the first time. Then, when it's over, you can riot!”

Later in the panel, series showrunner and writer Michael Chabon revealed that in addition to Seven of Nine and B4, fan favorites Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis would also be appearing in the new series, as Will Riker and Deanna Troi. He described Sir Patrick’s reaction to having returning cast members on set, saying “when Frakes was directing, seeing Patrick and Jonathan together [...] I would go to the set just so I could see the smiles on their faces.”
