The woman responsible for sound editing for Star Treks II and III will be given the Motion Picture Sound Editors Career Achievement Award next January.
The Hollywood Reporter brings us the story that Cecelia “Cece” Hall is to be honored by the MPSE for her accomplished career in sound editing. Hall was the supervising sound editor for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. Later, she would become the first woman nominated for an Academy Award in sound editing, for Top Gun, and in 1991, won the Academy Award for The Hunt for Red October.
In a statement last week, MPSE president Tom McCarthy said, “Cece Hall is one of the pillars of the sound community. She is an exceptionally talented sound editor, who has created imaginative sound for many great films. As an executive at Paramount Pictures, she was a tireless advocate for filmmakers and sound artists and their projects. As an educator, she has inspired and shared her insights and experience with countless young people who’ve gone onto productive careers in the industry. We are delighted to recognize her diverse contributions to the art of entertainment sound with our Career Achievement Award.”
Hall will receive the Award during the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ 67th Annual Golden Reel Awards on January 19th, 2020.
