Filming on Star Trek: Picard season 2 has been delayed (again)
FEBRUARY 2, 2021 - In news surprising probably no one: Star Trek: Picard did not start filming yesterday as we were expecting.
While CBS All Access have not yet officially announced when filming would start, back in January, Picard actor Jeri Ryan told a fan on Twitter that it had been “pushed back” to February 1st. We had earlier heard from Ryan’s co-stars Michelle Hurd and Evan Evagora that it could start as early as January. Filming is expected to take place in California, where season one was filmed.
On Sunday, a fan tweeted at Ryan, “is it true filming of season 2 of Picard starts tomorrow? Can't wait!!” Ryan replied, “No. But soon.”
No. But soon.

California is still in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic, and while film and television production is allowed to go ahead with modifications in Los Angeles County, it’s likely that Star Trek: Picard would want to proceed with extra caution, given that the series’ namesake is 80 years old and in one of the highest-risk groups for complications from the disease. While Sir Patrick Stewart was recently vaccinated against COVID-19, the vaccines administered in California require two doses, either 21 or 28 days apart, and another few weeks after that for them to reach full efficacy of 94-95%.
Long story short, the latest start date we’d heard of for Star Trek: Picard season two has come and gone, and with Stewart’s vaccination timing, it could be another few weeks before we have an update. You’ll know when I do.
