io9 has an exclusive clip from the featurette “First Contact: Kaminar”. In the featurette, the cast and crew look back on the Short Treks episode “The Brightest Star” and bringing the backstory of Saru (played by Doug Jones) to life. In io9’s exclusive clip, we hear from Michelle Yeoh, talking about her appearance as Lieutenant Phillipa Georgiou, the good, Prime Universe Georgiou, well before the events of Star Trek: Discovery season one. “I really enjoyed coming back for that short,” she said, “and I was really happy to be part of it.”

A piece from Screen Rant revealed an exclusive bonus clip called “Coming of Age”, in which Star Trek executive producer Alex Kurtzman and director Maja Vrvilo discuss the episode “Runaway”. In “Runaway”, Ensign Sylvia Tilly (played by Mary Wiseman) meets the Xahean queen, Po (played by Yadira Guevara-Prip). Tilly and Po’s relationship, of course, becomes pivotal to the action in Star Trek: Discovery, later in season two.

In Screen Rant’s exclusive Short Treks special feature clip, Kurtzman described Wiseman’s acting as “brilliant” and “wildly emotional”, noting as well that “she can do every flavor we throw at her.” Vrvilo also described having very little time to rehearse her two female leads and that she wasn’t entirely sure how the short would turn out.

Of course, you can judge for yourself how “Runaway” turned out, as well as “The Brightest Star”; the Star Trek: Short Treks box set is available now on Amazon, or wherever you get your Blu-rays and DVDs.
