In case you missed it, New York Comic-Con is going virtual. Earlier this month, convention organizers ReedPop posted on their website that the in-person event, originally scheduled for October in New York City, has been cancelled in favor of a virtual event.

The new event, which is a joint venture between New York Comic Con and its sister production MCM Comic Con London, will be called New York Comic Con’s Metaverse, and take place October 8th through 11th, on New York Comic Con’s YouTube channel. (You might recognize the name “Metaverse” there; that’s ReedPop’s digital convention format that debuted just last weekend.) A piece on TrekNews.net reported when the news was announced, that the Star Trek Universe was specifically called out as an expected panel, in the schedule of streaming events for the weekend, so look out for more details on that as the date nears.

In a statement, New York Comic Con said, “While we won’t be able to geek out with each other in person this year, we’re working hard to [...] deliver unique experiences to help fill some of the longing we all have to get back to a convention. We miss shows just as much as you do and we’re doing everything we can to make sure that when it is safe for us to be together again, you’ll have the same amazing experience you’ve come to expect from NYCC.

“Stay safe, stay nerdy, and remember: NYCC fans wore masks before it was cool.“
