John de Lancie surprises fans at First Contact Day 2021 with the announcement that Q will appear in Star Trek: Picard season 2

APRIL 25, 2021 - Cast your mind back to First Contact Day 2021, which happened earlier this month. One of the big surprise announcements was that John de Lancie would be returning to the Star Trek Universe, reprising his role as Q in the second season of Star Trek: Picard.

Now de Lancie is getting a reputation for dropping hints about his upcoming appearance in videos he’s recording for Cameo. Our friends at TrekMovie.com helpfully compiled several of his recent videos that help put together a picture of what his role will be like in Star Trek: Picard season two.

A recurring theme is that Q will be doing a fair bit of annoying our newly-android former captain. TrekMovie quotes de Lancie’s Cameo to “Kyle”, in which he says, “You might not know this but Q is back and I have been spending the last month really annoying Picard in the new show Picard.”

Cameo, for those of you who might not be aware, is a service where you can pay to have celebrities send you or a loved one a personalized message. You can ask a question or just get a hello on the service. Celebrities and public figures can set their own prices for the service, and occasionally offer contributions to charity; a Cameo from de Lancie will currently set you back $150.

In addition to promising to annoy Picard, in other Cameo videos de Lancie also indicated that he will be in at least two episodes of the show, which might include the season’s premiere, and that Jonathan Frakes would be directing. It’s worth noting that none of these details have been officially announced by Paramount+, but despite his character being known as a trickster, you can probably trust John de Lancie as a reliable narrator.

To watch a selection of de Lancie’s Cameo videos and read more details, head to TrekMovie.com. And to catch up on season one of Star Trek: Picard, and maybe a few old Q episodes while you’re at it, head over to Paramount+, the one and only home of the Star Trek Universe.
