Wouldn’t you like to watch a movie with everyone’s favorite space dad, Jonathan Frakes? Especially a movie he’d directed, so you could get all his pithy commentary first-hand? Especially a Star Trek one he’d directed? Well now’s your chance! Jonathan Frakes, in conjunction with IGN, will be hosting a watchalong of Star Trek: First Contact - TONIGHT!

The show is being put on as part of IGN’s Watch From Home Theater, a weekly live show where they grab a person of note to spend an evening with and watch films together. Previous Watch From Home Theater broadcasts have included Jurassic Park with actor Joseph Mazzello, 10 Cloverfield Lane with director Dan Trachtenberg, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with writers Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz.

Star Trek: First Contact was Frakes’ feature film debut, although it was nothing near his first Star Trek directorial debut. By the time First Contact was released in 1996, Frakes had already directed episodes of Next Gen, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. Of course, since then, Frakes has had a wonderfully successful career as a television director, and even gone on to direct episodes of Discovery and Picard...and even a couple episodes of The Orville.

To tune into the Watch From Home Theater livestream, head to ign.com today, Wednesday, April 29th, at 5pm PT. Please note that Watch From Home Theatre does NOT stream the movie, just the commentary of the hosts. You’ll need to sync up your own copy of First Contact. However, while watching the film and livestream, you can also join in the chat. You can either do that through IGN’s dedicated Discord server, or tweet along using the hashtags #StarTrekFirstContact and #WFHTheater. Once again, for more information on how to join, hit up ign.com.
