Kate Mulgrew Narrates Audible Original “The Space Race” About Apollo 11 Landing
Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew is the narrator for a new audiobook about Apollo 11 and the space race.
An interview in the Pasadena Star News recently, out of Pasadena, California, had Mulgrew reflecting on her memories of the moon landing, and her experience narrating The Space Race. The Space Race is a new Audible Original audiobook that “uses archive, original interviews, dramatic reconstructions and first-hand accounts to tell the story of mankind’s first amazing steps off our world towards the future of our civilization.”
In the interview, Mulgrew recalled experiencing the Apollo 11 moon landing, saying, “The silence that pervaded the TV room when we landed on the moon I will never forget as long as I live. The silence you could have cut with a knife. [...] And then when the words were spoken — ‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’ — I think I spied a tear in my father’s eye, which was to me very unsettling and also at the same time empowering. That tear told me that this was something huge. And it was.”
She went on to explain that narrating The Space Race was a natural fit. “I’m Captain Janeway, first female captain of a starship, associated with the ‘Star Trek’ franchise, so what could be more auspicious or correct than to get a captain’s voice behind this first movement into space?”
The Audible Original audiobook, The Space Race, is available now on Amazon and Audible.
