Kevin Hageman Offers Hints About What to Expect in Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2

JANUARY 20, 2023 - Star Trek: Prodigy’s executive producer Kevin Hageman recently spoke about how the second season of the show will be different than the first season.  He said that season one was basically a group of kids who stole a ship and went on a few adventures, whereas season two will be about them growing up a bit and earning one. He also offered some details about what we can expect in season 2:

Asencia is still alive out there somewhere floating around; Gwyn deciding to go to Solum to try to do what her father couldn’t; and they are on Janeway’s new ship, so there will be a lot of adults there.

Holo-Janeway had to go. She was the kid’s mentor but having her on board the new ship with real Janeway would have been problematic.  While they knew killing off the hologram would be a risk, it was emotional growth for the characters that was needed.

“Season 2 is going to be really exciting because it’s going to feel like a new chapter. We’re diving into new territory, but it still feels like a continuation of season one. And so I think by the end of season two, it’s all going to just feel like this gargantuan epic piece.”

The production team wants the next chapter to feel different and not just another season of shows that blurs together with the first one. That being said, at the core, it will be the same show.

Kevin Hageman also shared with us; “It’s always going to be about our crew of kids. What we love, though, is these kids who are thrust into the adult world of Trek and adult circumstances. And so it’s fantastic to have Admiral Janeway and these other adult characters. And in season 2 there’ll be other fantastic adult characters around them. And then that creates conflict and creates humor to play off of that. That’s part of the magic of Star Trek: Prodigy.”

So much to look forward to for the next season. For more information on the next season, season three, and a possible movie, warp on over to TrekMovie.
