Kurtzman: There are two previously-unannounced Star Trek live-action series in development
There are two new Star Trek series in development, both of which were previously unannounced.
TrekCore reports that Alex Kurtzman dropped the news at the Star Trek: Picard press tour last week. Kurtzman was elaborating on comments from his producing partner, Heather Kadin, who gave TrekCore an update on the shows we do already know about.
Kadin talked about the Michelle Yeoh-led Section 31 series, as well as the two upcoming animated series, Lower Decks and the unnamed Nickelodeon project. All three of those shows, she said, have to “fall under the guise of, ‘is this [show] a unique space we haven’t explored yet?’”.
Then, according to TrekCore, Kurtzman said, “There are two more live action shows that haven’t been announced yet.”
TrekCore notes that the likely candidates are a Starfleet Academy series, which has been rumored for a while, and a Pike/Spock/Number One series, which Kurtzman teased at San Diego Comic Con. However, at the Picard press tour, Kurtzman declined to comment any further on what the two series might be.
For now, we’ll have to keep ourselves busy with Star Trek: Picard, which premieres this Thursday on CBS All Access in the States, and other carriers globally on Thursday and Friday.
