Leonard Nimoy’s Wife Says He Sought Help from Nurses to End His Life

Leonard Nimoy - Spock in The Original Series - passed away on February 27th, 2015. In a new interview with Inside Edition, his widow, Susan Nimoy, talked about what it was like, at the end.

Leonard Nimoy suffered from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, which eventually led to his death. Susan Nimoy said of the disease: “You cannot catch your breath. He couldn’t go out. For him to go from the parking lot to the movie theater, forget it.”

She went on to say that “Leonard believed in dying with dignity” and explained that he’d told her when it was “time”. She said of his nurses:  “He didn't want to be confined to a wheelchair and not able to breathe...They keep adding a little more morphine over the period…He was in such a compromised situation that it did not take long."

Susan Nimoy is currently appearing in the Tips from Former Smokers Campaign by the Centers for Disease Control, talking about his illness and how it affected their lives.
