LeVar Burton and the Nimoy Family Join L.A. Care COVID Campaign
While we can in some ways look back at the COVID-19 pandemic in a more relaxed fashion, the disease has not gone away and continues to endanger lives. As a result, there is a new campaign in Los Angeles to promote vaccination, and, as you might have guessed, it has a Star Trek connection.
TrekMovie is reporting on an effort by the L.A. Care Health Plan, in collaboration with LeVar Burton and the Leonard Nimoy family, to “amplify the message in communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.” They will be erecting billboards featuring, for example, the images of Spock and Geordi La Forge and the message “Get vaxxed. Get boosted. Be there for the next generation.”
Leonard Nimoy’s daughter, Julie, said of working with L.A. Care, “I have no doubt that my father would have been an outspoken proponent of vaccinations during the COVID-19 crisis, which has seen so many suffer lung damage.” Leonard Nimoy died of COPD in 2015. Julie Nimoy also said that “with LeVar joining us, we know we will capture even more attention to ensure the message is seen.”
L.A. Care says its mission “is to provide access to quality health care for Los Angeles County's vulnerable and low-income communities and residents and to support the safety net required to achieve that purpose.” They have served Los Angeles County for 25 years.
