Star Trek is continuing its mission to go boldly into the gambling machine market.

Aristocrat Technologies, makers of the EDGE X cabinet (aka a fancy slot machine), have licensed Star Trek: The Next Generation for a new game, which they will debut at next month’s Global Gaming Expo.

In a press release, Jon Hanlin, Aristocrat’s Vice President Commercial Strategy, Gaming Operations, said, “We are big fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and our design and development teams have taken that inspiration and combined it with their passion for play. The result is an innovative game featuring sights and sounds from the series that takes full advantage of the EDGE X cabinet's cinematic design, and will entertain long-time fans and newer fans alike."

This announcement comes just months after rival GameCo announced its own “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Red Alert” game at the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention in August.

Two slightly puzzling licensing choices on the part of CBS, given the Star Trek ethos of a post-scarcity society.

Fans wanting to try out the new TNG game should make plans to attend the aforementioned Global Gaming Expo, which takes place October 14th through 17th, in Las Vegas.
