Noah Hawley to direct the next Star Trek film for Paramount

NOVEMBER 19, 2019 - It looks like we might be getting a Kelvin Timeline Star Trek 4 movie, after all.
The next installment of the Paramount Star Trek film offering has been in the works for some time. The last film, Star Trek Beyond, came out in 2016, and since then, the theoretical production has been plagued by contract negotiations, the gain and subsequent loss of a director, S.J. Clarkson, and a myriad of rumors about whether Quentin Tarantino would be directing.
Now, an exclusive piece from Deadline seems to indicate it’s all coming together again: they report that Paramount Pictures is finalizing a deal with Legion creator Noah Hawley, which would see him write and direct the next film. According to the Deadline piece, the film will be produced under the banner of Hawley’s 26 Keys production company, in association with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. The piece implies that Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban will be involved, but it does not explicitly state that there is an agreement in place for their appearances.
Hawley is an accomplished writer, director and producer who got his start writing for the TV series Bones. He is probably best known for his groundbreaking series Legion, but he is also known for his work on the Emmy-winning Fargo for FX.
The Deadline piece notes that Paramount Pictures is still separately working on a Star Trek “spinoff” with Quentin Tarantino.
