Paramount Announces a Correction to the Blu-ray Release of 'Star Trek: Picard' Season 3
SEPTEMBER 25, 2023 - In the world of Star Trek, attention to detail has always been a hallmark of the franchise, and fans take their beloved series seriously. When an unexpected discrepancy was discovered in the Star Trek: Picard season 3 Blu-ray release, the fans didn't miss a beat. TrekCore reported a few weeks ago on an apparent edit anomaly in the Blu-ray discs, and now, Paramount Home Entertainment has stepped in to address the issue and reassure fans.
According to TrekCore, the source of concern was the opening shot of "The Last Generation" episode. On the Blu-ray version, fans were treated to a different and less captivating sequence featuring the iconic starship Enterprise-D than the one seen on Paramount+ when the episode originally aired. Initially dismissed as an editing error involving an early version of the sequence, this same version was also observed in European streams of the episode before being swiftly corrected by Paramount+ in the UK and other regions.
However, Paramount Home Entertainment has since clarified what exactly transpired. They stated,
The version of the series finale episode of Star Trek: Picard ("The Last Generation") included on the North American Blu-ray and DVD release was indeed a finished version of that episode, intended for air. The shot of the Enterprise-D was later enhanced for a theatrical screening for fans and subsequently made available for the streaming audience on Paramount+.
This acknowledgment comes with good news for fans worldwide. Paramount Home Entertainment is taking steps to update the Blu-ray disc to include the enhanced shot of the Enterprise-D, ensuring that all future physical copies will feature this captivating sequence. This development is especially welcome in overseas markets, where the season 3 set has yet to hit stores, with a scheduled release date of November 20th in the UK.
But that's not all. For those eagerly anticipating the Star Trek - The Picard Legacy Collection box set, there's a pleasant surprise in store. The studio has committed to updating the discs for future sales to incorporate the enhanced version of "The Last Generation." This comprehensive collection includes the complete series of Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: The Next Generation, along with all Next Generation movies.
The only minor adjustment for fans is a slight delay in the Legacy Collection’s domestic release date, moving from October 17th to November 7th. However, given the circumstances, this delay is a small price to pay for ensuring that fans receive the best possible content. Paramount Home Entertainment expressed gratitude to fans for their unwavering passion for all things Star Trek and their keen attention to detail.
As for those who already own the Picard season 3 Blu-ray, the studio has not yet announced whether they will offer disc replacements. It's possible that it's too early to launch such an exchange program, particularly if corrected discs are still in production.
