SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 – Almost two years ago, we let you know about Paramount+’s first availability in Asia, which turned out to be in South Korea. Now, according to Paramount, a second foray into Asia will happen later this year, with Paramount+’s arrival in Japan.

Paramount+ will bring its films and series to Japan through the on-demand services of both J:COM and WOWOW, at no additional costs for their subscribers. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be among the shows available, though it isn’t clear whether the rest of the Star Trek series and films will also be included.

J:COM is one of Japan’s top cable television operators, and WOWOW is the top premium pay channel in the market.

Marco Nobili, Executive Vice President and International General Manager of Paramount+ International, said, ““With the launch of Paramount+ in Japan, we are now delivering hours of popular films and series to fans in all key streaming markets worldwide. It is an important milestone for us and a critical step for the future of our streaming business."

Yoichi Iwaki, President and Representative Director of J:COM, and Akira Tanaka, Representative Director and CEO of WOWOW, each expressed his enthusiasm regarding their collaboration with each other and with Paramount+. Iwaki said, “… we will deliver attractive content, including Paramount+ original productions…. Together with our long-time partner WOWOW, we will ensure the success of Paramount+ in Japan. In addition, we will strengthen our partnerships with both parties to enhance the value of the entertainment experience for our customers.”

Paramount+ becomes available in Japan on December 1.
