Patrick Stewart Says He’s Awaiting the Arrival of a Script for a STAR TREK: PICARD Movie
Star Trek: Picard ended its 3-season run on Paramount+ back in April, finally ending Jean-Luc Picard’s story after 35 years. But maybe it wasn’t so “final” after all.
Picard’s portrayer, Patrick Stewart, has not been shy about his desire to continue the Admiral’s story in the form of a new Star Trek film. Speaking this week to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stewart proclaimed that he was “hungry” for more. His appetite may soon be sated. The venerable actor revealed,
I heard only last night about a script that is being written, but written specifically for the actor, Patrick, to play in it. And I’ve been told to receive it within a week or so. And I’m so excited because it sounds like the kind of project where the kind of experimentation that I want to do will be essential for this kind of material.
Further information on the project is scant at present, but, as Horowitz pointed out, it appears that the film, should it get a green light, will be something different than what we’ve seen before for the character of Picard. Stewart went on to say,
…particularly the last season of Picard was extraordinary to perform because I was continually being faced, because of the wonderful job the writers did, with a different man.
So if a Star Trek: Picard film is to take flight, what may draw Stewart to it is a chance to explore some new aspect of the character. What that will be, fans will have to wait and see.
The main thrust of the interview was Stewart’s wonderful new memoir, Making It So. You can order that book at Amazon.
