Pinewood Studios in Canada Christens "The Star Trek Stage"
In a celebration marking the release of the final season of Star Trek: Discovery, Pinewood Toronto Studios has renamed one of their premier sound stages "The Star Trek Stage." This renaming honors the enduring legacy of the Star Trek series, which has called the Toronto-based studio home since January 2017.
Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, the 18,000 square foot stage has played a pivotal role in the production of Star Trek: Discovery, housing iconic settings like the Ready Room and the International Federation Headquarters. This stage, along with others including the massive 45,900 square foot Mega Stage and stages 7, 9, and 12, facilitated the creation of a universe that has captivated millions of viewers worldwide.
As Star Trek: Discovery wraps up its fifth and final season, viewers can anticipate an enthralling conclusion. Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery find themselves chasing a galaxy-spanning mystery involving an ancient power hidden for centuries, racing against formidable foes determined to seize this mysterious force for themselves.
Alex Kurtzman, the Executive Producer at the helm of the Star Trek series, expressed his gratitude towards Pinewood Toronto Studios, stating, "Pinewood Toronto has become a second home for our Star Trek family, and we’re grateful that they’ve named a stage in honor of the franchise."
He highlighted the collaborative efforts of the talented artists both in front of and behind the camera that have enriched the series over the years.
Sarah Farrell, General Manager of Pinewood Toronto Studios, shared her enthusiasm about the studio's ongoing relationship with the Star Trek franchise.
“We are so delighted to have hosted Star Trek: Discovery over 5 seasons and the recently wrapped Star Trek: Section 31 movie event and to celebrate our longstanding relationship with the franchise with our own Star Trek Stage,” she said. “We look forward to welcoming many more productions to come.”
The dedication of a stage to the franchise cements a long-standing partnership, with promises of more exciting projects in the future.
As the Star Trek franchise approaches its 60th anniversary, its impact continues to grow, shaping and expanding its universe with upcoming titles like Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and the Star Trek: Section 31 movie event featuring Michelle Yeoh.
Pinewood Toronto Studios, now fully integrated into the Pinewood Group as of May 2023, remains a top destination for both domestic and international producers. Its facilities, including North America’s one of the largest purpose-built sound stages, the Mega Stage, have hosted a myriad of productions that resonate with audiences worldwide.
