Plan your weekend at WonderCon with this guide to the Star Trek-related events
APRIL 1, 2022 - As we noted in yesterday’s events post, WonderCon is happening this weekend. Given the apparent dearth of Star Trek programming, here is a more detailed preview of the Trek-related options coming up at the Anaheim Convention Center, according to the schedule as it stands as of this writing.
First, Bobby Clark and Tracee Lee Cocco will be signing autographs all weekend.
Today (Friday), at 3:00 in North 200B, Annie Wersching will be reflecting on her experiences portraying the Borg Queen in season two of Star Trek: Picard. According to the schedule, Wersching will be joined by “James Mackinnon (makeup designer and department head of prosthetics) and Neville Page (senior creative designer), who designed and created the new look of the Borg Queen.”
Then on Sunday, the two Trek-related options are happening back-to-back and in neighboring rooms. First, at 1pm PT in Room 209, our own Alison Pitt will be on a panel with Larry Nemecek, John Champion, James Kerwin, and Jessica Lynn Verdi: “Zooming and Booming: Star Trek’s Post-pandemic Golden Age.” They will be asking, “What are the most amazing paradigm shifts for the Star Trek series, fandom, and their intersection? And what might be right around the corner?”
Finally, at 2pm PT in Room 207, Circuit Judge John Owens, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mitch Dembin, and Washington, DC attorney Mark Zaid will be bringing their legal expertise to bear on “Law in Star Trek,” addressing some of the moral issues that Star Trek has been bringing up since the beginning. They’ll be asking such questions as, “What are the rights of refugees? What happens if a computer goes on a killing spree? If you find a starship, can you keep it?”
The answer to the last question is clearly, “YES!” Or is it…?
