Quentin Tarantino “steering away” from directing a Star Trek film
If you were holding your breath for a Quentin Tarantino-led Star Trek film, now might be a good time to go ahead and let that out. After months of speculation and rumor, the legendary director seems to be over the idea.
In a new interview with online entertainment magazine Consequence of Sound, Tarantino was asked whether he was really going to stick to his now-famous pledge of only directing 10 films. “Yeah, that’s the idea,” he said. But is Star Trek one of them? Tarantino said, “I think I’m steering away from Star Trek, but I haven’t had an official conversation with those guys yet.”
As recently as November, reports still had Tarantino working on a Star Trek film with J.J. Abrams. And just last week, new ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish said that there are two Star Trek films currently in development. One of them is said to be from director Noah Hawley, and with Tarantino removing himself from what might have been the other one, that either leaves just Hawley’s in development, or Hawley’s and another one we don’t yet know about.
Regardless, it looks like fans hoping for Star Trek to find a footing in the Tarantino cinematic universe are to be disappointed.
