REVIEW: IDW's STAR TREK #17 Presents a Different Harry Kim
Writers: Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing
Artist: Marcus To
Colourist: Lee Loughridge
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
The return of Harry Kim in this arc has been a notable highlight, particularly with the reunion of the Delta Flyers alongside Tom Paris. However, Harry's changed demeanor and his differing actions from the Theseus crew add an intriguing dynamic to the storyline. His choice to destroy the Tzenkethi shipyard, despite its tactical repercussions and the impending collapse of the Tzenkethi home world, sets the stage for a moral dilemma that propels the narrative forward.
As the second-to-last installment of the “Savage World of Glass and Bone” arc, issue #17 sets the stage for a climactic finale. The impending war and the Federation's role in it raise thought-provoking questions about morality and accountability.
Despite the anticipation for the resolution, the sombre circumstances hint at a potentially unhappy ending, yet the captivating storytelling ensures continued engagement. The aftermath leaves characters like Dr. Crusher, Scotty, and Data grappling with their own challenges, adding depth to the overall narrative. Their experiences underscore the helplessness and uncertainty prevailing aboard the Theseus, contributing to a sense of impending catastrophe.
Another great issue showing the quality throughout you come to expect from a Trek book at IDW under the group editor Heather Antos with a lot of set up for the final issue of the arc.
