Robert Beltran officially confirmed to reprise Voyager's Chakotay in Star Trek: Prodigy
OCTOBER 10, 2021 - After nearly two months of speculation, we know the truth: Robert Beltran will be definitely be reprising his role as Chakotay for Star Trek: Prodigy. This time, however, Chakotay returns as Captain of his own vessel. Confirmation of Beltran's role came during the Star Trek: Prodigy panel at New York Comic Con over the weekend, as reported by TrekCore.com.
During the Star Trek: Voyager panel at the 55-Year Mission in August, Beltran told fans he was "working on this voiceover animation thing that Kate [Mulgrew] is doing — Star Trek: Prodigy.” While it wasn't confirmed at that time that Beltran would be voicing Chakotay, the news came just one day after a tweet from series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman which read, "We see Chakotay is trending, and we're totally down for that", leading fans to believe what we now know to be be true. Chakotay is back.
While we don’t know much about Chakotay's involvement on Prodigy, three new cast members were also announced in roles that will likely be members of Captain Chakotay's crew. Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer) and Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) will be joining the cast. Diggs will voice Commander Tysess, an Andorian, while Jamil lends her voice to the role of Ensign Asencia, a Trill. Actor Jason Alexander will be returning to the franchise, joining the voice cast as Doctor Noun, a Tellarite. Alexander first appeared as Kurros in the Star Trek: Voyager season five episode "Think Tank".
Star Trek: Prodigy premieres October 28th on Paramount+.
