Showrunner Terry Matalas indicates that season 3 will be Star Trek: Picard's last
MARCH 6, 2022 - It’s looking like more and more of a certainty that Star Trek: Picard will end with just three seasons. Picard showrunner Terry Matalas shared a photo from the set over the weekend, seemingly saying goodbye “forever” to Star Trek: Picard.
In his tweet, Matalas posted a photo of a transporter pad, along with the words “Only three more working days until #StarTrekPicard wraps and we beam out forever!”
The question of whether or not the series would continue beyond three seasons doesn’t appear to be a question anymore. Back in January, series star Patrick Stewart created unrest in the fanbase when he told SFX Magazine, “We are weeks away from wrapping the series,” leading many to question whether or not “series” referred to a “season” (as it does in England), or to Star Trek: Picard as a whole.
It seems more and more that filming on the series has been completed. Forever. In a recent interview with Trek Movie, Matalas was asked about production on the third season of Picard. While he wouldn’t offer many details, he did say that he hopes the team is “concluding Picard’s story in the best, most appropriate, satisfying way”.
Long time Star Trek designers Mike and Denise Okuda, who received the Art Director’s Guild Lifetime Achievement Award last weekend, also celebrated the wrap of Star Trek: Picard. Posting to Facebook, Mike Okuda shared a photo of a bottle of champagne and two glasses, saying, “Wrapped! Last night, we celebrated. So proud to have been part of the Star Trek: Picard art department team!”
After all, “all good things”...
Season two is now airing. That, and the complete first season of Star Trek: Picard are available to stream now on Paramount+.
