Simon Pegg on Star Trek 4: Tarantino still “in the mix”, talk of “various spin-offs”

Star Trek actor Simon Pegg has given a new interview in which he gives us some hints about what could be next for the Star Trek film franchise.

Speaking to Gold Derby about his latest appearance in indie film Lost Transmissions, Pegg was asked about where Star Trek 4 stands, and whether he’s writing it. “No, I don’t know anything about it,” he said, and went on to express his excitement about Legion creator Noah Hawley writing something for the franchise. “But,” he said, “I don’t think that Noah’s thing is necessarily going to be Star Trek 4.”

After briefly acknowledging that he was mostly speculating, which gets him into trouble “all the time”, Pegg went on to indicate where he thinks Trek might be going next. He said, “As far as I know, Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek idea is still kind of in the mix. That’s down to QT about what he wants to do next, you know. There’s been talk of various spin-offs possibly. We’ll see. I’m always happy to get back into that universe.”

Pegg also talked about the late Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov in Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond, which came out just after his death in 2016. He said, “I think it will be bittersweet for us now to do another one after losing Anton, just because we were very much a family and it will feel sad. We’ll miss him more than we normally do because he will be conspicuous by his absence.”

Pegg’s latest film Lost Transmissions is expected to come out in the spring. Meanwhile, you can watch the Anton Yelchin documentary Love, Antosha on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes now, and the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek films are also available on multiple streaming services.
