MAY 23, 2023 – As the Writer’s Guild strike enters another week, the writers seeking a better contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are getting support from the Star Trek community.

According to TrekMovie, Trek writers were called to picket in Los Angeles and New York last Friday. They were joined by actors and others who have worked on the franchise. Anthony Rapp, Celia Rose Gooding, and Jess Bush joined the line in Manhattan, while the Los Angeles picket included Jeri Ryan, Denise Crosby, and Jason Mantzoukas. In front of Paramount, a “Trek family picture” tweeted by Bill Wolkoff included writers and actors from all the television shows.

Ryan said in a video posted on Twitter, “… as actors we have nothing to do without writers. We have no words to say. There are no stories to tell.”

Also on the horizon, the actors’ guilds are voting on a strike authorization, if their contract negotiations break down. Their current contract expires on June 30. (Anthony Rapp is on the board of SAG-AFTRA, the union that includes actors.)

Production of season three of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been delayed by the writers’ strike, and more Trek production could also be affected as the writers’ strike continues and if the actors also strike.
