Star Trek actors and shows get 7 nominations at inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards; the franchise will receive first Legacy Award

NOVEMBER 23, 2020 - The Star Trek franchise has picked up an impressive seven nominations for six awards at the inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards, and that’s not all! Star Trek is also being honored with the first ever Critics Choice Super Award Legacy Award.

Over the weekend, The Hollywood Reporter provided some details on the launching of the Super Awards. A separate event from the annual Critics Choice Awards, the Super Awards are designed to bring greater recognition to genres such as science fiction and fantasy, action, horror, and animation.

Now, to the nominations!

Star Trek: Lower Decks has picked up the nomination for Best Animated Series, alongside heavy-hitting shows like Archer, Rick & Morty, and BoJack Horseman. Series stars Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid are each up for an award. Newsome has been nominated for Best Voice Actress in an Animated Series and Quaid has been nominated for Best Voice Actor in an Animated Series.

Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard are going head to head as each series has been nominated for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Series. Other shows nominated in this category include The Mandalorian, Outlander, Raised by Wolves, Upload, and What We Do in the Shadows.

Sir Patrick Stewart has been nominated for Best Actor in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series for Star Trek: Picard. Similarly, Sonequa Martin-Green has been nominated for Best Actress in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series for her work in Star Trek: Discovery. Stewart and Martin-Green will jointly accept the inaugural Super Award Legacy Award on behalf of the Star Trek franchise. That award recognizes "the cultural impact [Star Trek] has had across multiple decades while continuing to appeal to and grow its loyal fanbase with new stories and characters."

The Critics Choice Super Awards will be co-hosted by producer, writer and director Kevin Smith, with writer and actor Dani Fernandez. The virtual ceremony will be broadcast January 10, 2021 on the CW network. To read the full list of nominees, visit CriticsChoice.com.
