Star Trek Comics Garner Two Eisner Nominations
MAY 24, 2023 – Star Trek comics in various formats have been around for a long time. Now might be considered a more recent golden age for them, not unlike the current era of Star Trek on television. What has never happened to a Trek comic before, though, is nomination for a Will Eisner Comic Industry Award. Until now.
ComicBook is reporting that two Star Trek comic book titles, from IDW, have been nominated for Eisner Awards, each in a different category. Star Trek #400 was released last September and featured a story by Wil Wheaton. It has been nominated for Best Single Issue/One-Shot.
Then last October IDW released Star Trek #1, representing a new ongoing title. It has been nominated for Best New Series.
IDW’s Group Editor, Licensing, Heather Antos, said, “"Words literally cannot describe how humbling it is for these two books to be recognized for the first time in franchise history by the industry at large for these two very competitive categories.”
The Eisner Awards have been conferred since 1988, following the discontinuation of the Kirby Awards, named for legendary comic book artist, Jack Kirby. The Eisner Awards are named in honor of cartoonist Will Eisner, who popularized the term “graphic novel,” and are presented in 32 categories.
IDW titles received five nominations in all, and the slate of nominees for the categories that include the two Star Trek titles look like this:

Mary Jane & Black Cat Beyond, by Jed Mackay and C. F. Villa (Marvel)
Moon Knight: Black, White, and Blood #3, edited by Tom Brevoort (Marvel)
Star Trek #400, edited by Heather Antos (IDW)
