Star Trek: Discovery Designer Neville Page to Host Panel at LightBox Expo

LightBox Expo

Star Trek: Discovery character designer Neville Page will be appearing at a new convention this weekend, highlighting artists in the film, television and video games industry.

The Hollywood Reporter published a list yesterday of ten must-see panels at LightBox Expo 2019. This new convention, being held at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California, is billed as hosting “Over 250 of the best artists from the ANIMATION, LIVE-ACTION, ILLUSTRATION and GAMING industries coming together for the ultimate celebration of art.”

Page is hosting a panel on Saturday called “Design for TV and Film with Neville Page”. Quoting the Hollywood Reporter piece, “The man behind character and creature design from projects like Avatar, Star Trek: Discovery and Shazam! goes inside his process, with the official description promising, ‘Some good info will be shared on high-end cosplay techniques as well.’ Finally, you too can become the Klingon of your dreams.”

Other notable panels across the weekend include the Marvel Panel, Art & Visual Development for Lion King, and the Concept Art Awards, which among other things is awarding famed designer Ralph McQuarrie with a posthumous lifetime achievement award. McQuarrie, while primarily known for his work on Star Wars, also created the concept artwork for a redesigned U.S.S. Enterprise for the Star Trek: Planet of the Titans film, which was never produced. That design would go on to serve as inspiration for...the U.S.S. Discovery.

LightBox Expo is on today through Sunday, at the Pasadena Convention Center. Tickets cost $50 per day or $135 for the weekend, and are available at lightboxexpo.com.
