Star Trek: Discovery nominated for 2022 award from the Make-up Artists & Hairstylists Guild
JANUARY 16, 2022 - Among the many creatives working their magic behind the cameras of our favorite television and film productions are the make-up artists. Over the last 55+ years of Star Trek they have determined how we see the characters that populate the galaxy, from Andorians to Zaranites. A few of those craftspeople are being recognized for their efforts by the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild will be handing out their annual awards on February 19, and one of the nominations has gone to Star Trek: Discovery, represented by Glenn Hetrick, Rocky Faulkner, Nicola Bendrey, and Chris Burgoyne. Discovery has been nominated for Best Special Make-Up Effects in the category of TV Series – Limited, Miniseries, or New Media Series.
The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild was chartered in 1937 as Local 706 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artist and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO, CLC. It has been giving out its own awards since 2000, with a ten-year gap after 2004. Star Trek: Voyager received two nominations, for the 2000 and 2002 awards. Prior to the current nominations, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard have each received one. A Star Trek series has yet to win.
In addition to the Discovery nomination, Emmy-winning hair stylist Joy Zapata, who worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Generations, and Nemesis will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Winners will be announced at the February 19 ceremony, to be held live at and streamed online from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. For more on the MUAHS Awards, including the full slate of nominees, visit The Hollywood Reporter.
To see the artistry that garnered the Guild’s attention, Star Trek: Discovery is streaming now on Paramount+ and will return from midseason hiatus on February 10.
