Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will be available internationally on Pluto TV and Paramount+ following departure from Netflix
NOVEMBER 24, 2021 - Star Trek: Discovery fans outside the US and Canada have been reeling since the announcement last week just days shy of the premiere of season four that Netflix would be dropping the show. As part of the evolving history of Star Trek streaming, it seemed the plan was to limit Discovery to Paramount+, wherever that streaming service was available. Now the situation has produced some additional options, at least for now.
StarTrek.com is reporting that ViacomCBS is adding the new season of Discovery to certain streaming platforms “during this transition,” depending on the location. In 23 countries where Paramount+ is currently available overseas, the first two episodes of season four will drop this Friday, November 26, and new episodes will follow on a weekly basis. ViacomCBS is also offering a discounted introductory subscription to Paramount+ in those countries.
In seven other countries, including the UK, Star Trek: Discovery will be broadcast, also beginning this Friday, at 9pm local time on the Pluto TV Sci-Fi channel each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Simulcasts will occur on the Star Trek channel in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.
Finally, with specifics apparently yet to come, ViacomCBS said, “In the UK, Germany, France, Russia, South Korea and additional select countries, we are also making Season 4 available for purchase on participating digital platforms beginning Friday, November 26.”
There was no mention of the first three seasons of Discovery. The full announcement is available at StarTrek.com.
