Star Trek: Discovery season two will be available in a special-edition steelbook format, when it comes out on Blu-ray on November 12th.

A piece from Comicbook.com brings us the news that in addition to the normal four-disc Blu-ray set, fans will also have the option of purchasing the set as a steelbook. According to the piece, “The special steelbook features the Red Angel on the cover, the USS Discovery on the back, and Michael Burnham and Spock on the inside. The set will be available at Best [Buy] stores in North America.”

Both the normal Blu-ray set and the steelbook set will feature all fourteen episodes of Discovery season two, plus the Short Treks “Runaway” (the one where we first meet Po) and “The Brightest Star” (the one with the Kelpiens). The set also includes a number of special features, including:

  • “Enter the Enterprise”, where Discovery’s production team talk about bringing the Enterprise’s iconic bridge back to the small screen.

  • “The Red Angel”, where Sonequa Martin-Green and Discovery’s production designers describe making the Red Angel come to life.

  • “Dress for Success”, where costume designer Gersha Phillips and her team discuss their creation process.

  • “Creature Comforts”. This one is about creature design, and features a one-on-one conversation between makeup artist James MacKinnon and Mary Chieffo.

  • “Creating Space”, looking at CGI with the Emmy-nominated visual effects team.

Star Trek: Discovery fans will find plenty of content to enjoy in this extensive set, and the steelbook version is surely intended to make a great gift. Best Buy lists the steelbook as an exclusive, for $49.99 pre-order. They also list pre-orders of the DVD version at $37.99 and the Blu-ray at $44.99, although both of those versions can be found elsewhere, including Amazon.com. Once again, all of those home video editions will be out on November 12th in the United States and later dates worldwide.
