Star Trek: Discovery's Michelle Yeoh to receive award from the American Film Institute
AUGUST 9, 2022 - Apart from the attention that she has garnered from Star Trek fans as Philippa Georgiou (Captain and Emperor), Star Trek: Discovery’s Michelle Yeoh is also about to receive an honor that she will share with the likes of Robert Altman, Maya Angelou, Helen Mirren, and Spike Lee among others.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Friday that the American Film Institute will bestow Yeoh with an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts “for contributions of distinction to the art of the moving image.”
Referring to Yeoh and her fellow honoree, Lawrence Herbert, AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale, said, “Though both of these trailblazers have proven impact in vastly different ways, it is their shared dedication to the art of the moving image that provides this proud moment for AFI to shine a proper light upon their gifts given us.”
The presentation of the honorary degree will take place on August 13, 2022, during the AFI Conservatory’s commencement, at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The American Film Institute is a nonprofit organization that educates filmmakers and honors the heritage of the motion picture arts in the United States.
