Star Trek Events: Thursday, April 16th - Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020
In this week’s events, I’ve got a new thing or two, an old thing or two, and one thing that I just shouldn’t even have to tell you about.
First up, the new stuff!
Tonight, Thursday, April 16th, “The Doctors” are appearing on GalaxyCon Live. That’s Gates McFadden, Robert Picardo and John Billingsley. The interview starts at 7pm ET on GalaxyCon Live’s Facebook page, at facebook.com/galaxyconlive.
Also tonight is the first ever “Spirited: Cocktails with Kate in the Time of Coronavirus”. This special event is hosted by Captain Janeway herself, Kate Mulgrew, and gives 6 fans the opportunity to take part in a virtual Zoom happy hour. To enter, says Mulgrew on Twitter, “Please write no more than 3-4 sentences about how this period of enforced isolation has changed you, your life, and your perceptions of our society, and send your submissions to cocktailswithkate@gmail.com. Every week I will choose six of the best submissions and invite those people to a Zoom meeting, where we will pour a glass of wine (or your chosen spirit!) and have a nice chat. Perhaps some of my Trek friends will drop by and join us! You never know who may pop in.” Submissions for this week’s call are closed, but you can get in with a chance for next week; the deadline is noon on Tuesdays, eastern time.
Next up, the old (but good!) stuff:
These are the Twitter watchalongs:
#allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.
#TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of the Original Series every week, and
#StarTrekHour is a Q & A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.
And don’t forget the LeVar Burton Reads Twitter livestreams:
Mondays for kids at 9am PT
Wednesdays for young adults at 3pm PT, and
Fridays for adults at 6pm PT.
And last, but not least, the one I shouldn’t even have to tell you about:
Go play Star Trek Online. On PC or console, it’s one of the best ways out there to connect with fellow Trekkies. You don’t have to be a huge gamer, or know all the lore. You just have to enjoy hanging out in Star Trek. Find out more at startrekonline.com.
If you have an online event or gathering you’d like me to promote on the show, let me know! How are YOU getting together with your fellow Trekkies, without leaving the house?
Send me an email to let me know, at info@dailystartreknews.com. Let me know what you’re doing to keep the fandom alive, even as we’re all mostly staying in.
