Star Trek events: Thursday, February 18th - Wednesday, February 24th, 2021

It’s still February…for now…

If you’re in the mood to get together with some fellow Trekkies, then make sure you get out to one of these events over the next week:

IMERSA Master Class with Douglas Trumbull - Friday, February 19th

Listen up, film nerds! This Friday, February 19th at 9am PT, IMERSA - the Immersive Media Entertainment, Research, Science and Arts organization - is hosting a master class with the legendary VFX pioneer Douglas Trumbull. Star Trek fans know him mainly for his work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but he’s also the artist behind 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Blade Runner, for just a few. The IMERSA master class will feature a selection from his 2018 presentation at IMERSA, as well as a personal appearance where he’ll make commentary and take some questions from the audience.

Tickets for this virtual event are $20 and they’re open to the public. For more information, head to imersa.org.

InHouse-CON Ladies of Star Trek with Janet Kidder and Rachel Ancheril - Saturday, February 20th

Then on Saturday, February 20th at 12pm PT, InHouse-CON is back with a virtual Q&A with the Ladies of Star Trek: Janet Kidder, Star Trek: Discovery’s Osyraa, and Rachael Ancheril, who played Lt. Nhan, also from Discovery.

Tickets to the event cost $2.99, and you can also purchase signed 8x10s and virtual one-on-one chats. For more information, visit inhouse-con.com.

“BioTrekkie with the Admiral” live chat with Jayne Brook - Sunday, February 21st

Next up, on Sunday, February 21st at 10am PT, Star Trek: Discovery’s Admiral Katrina Cornwell, actor Jayne Brook, will join Star Trek science consultant Dr. Mohamed Noor in the last of their videos in the "BioTrekkie with the Admiral" series, covering science and production in Discovery season 3. To mark the occasion, they’re releasing the video as a "YouTube premiere”, which means it’s pre-recorded, but you can watch it live with other viewers in the chat. Both Brook and Dr. Noor will be there to chat and answer questions.

The event is free on Dr. Noor’s YouTube channel. Just head to youtube.com/biotrekkieexplains.

Daily Star Trek Views - Friday, February 19th

And of course, don’t forget to join me tomorrow afternoon, Friday at 1pm PT, for the live show Daily Star Trek Views on YouTube. This week, I’m talking about Star Trek: Lower Decks episode four: “Moist Vessel”. Subscribe now so you don’t miss it; head to youtube.com/dailystartreknews.

The regular stuff

And finally, here’s a recap of the stuff that’s going on every week; if you haven’t joined in yet and you’re at a loose end, now would be a great time to do it.

  • These are the Twitter watchalongs:

    • #allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.

    • #TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of the Original Series every week, and

    • #StarTrekHour is a Q&A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.

  • Then there’s Star Trek: Watch Party, hosted daily and coordinated on Facebook. Every evening, they use the Teleparty browser extension to watch Star Trek together. To find out more, head over to Star Trek: Watch Party on Facebook.

  • And finally, Sid City Social Club, hosted by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine star Alexander Siddig’s official fan website, is continuing their twice-weekly livestreams on Fridays and Tuesdays. To find out more, including how to join in, head to sidcity.net.

If you have an online event or gathering you’d like me to promote on the show, let me know! How are YOU getting together with your fellow Trekkies, without leaving the house?
