Events for Thursday, May 28th - Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020

Updated on Friday, May 29th with two new events!

It’s pretty quiet this week, coming off the back of a holiday weekend in the U.S. So now is a great time to remind you of the weekly events that are happening! If you haven’t joined in yet, what are you waiting for?

George Takei’s Allegiance Livestream - Friday, May 29th

The Broadway musical Allegiance, based on George Takei’s experience as a youth in Japanese American internment camps, will have its livestream premiere, this Friday, May 29th, at 8pm ET. If you’d like to tune in, you can do so through the Broadway on Demand app or online; there’s even a pre-show event “A Toast to Allegiance” that starts at 7.30.

The main show features the original Broadway cast recording, including George Takei, and the pre-show features stars Lea Salonga, Marc Acito, Lorenzo Thione, Jay Kuo and is hosted by Telly Leung. For more information, visit broadwayondemand.com/allegiance.

GalaxyCon Live Star Trek: The Next Generation crew featuring Marina Sirts and Brent Spiner - Saturday, May 30th

Then on Saturday, May 30th, at 1pm ET, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner will be taking part in the first of two GalaxyCon Live events featuring the crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Tickets are free for this event, but you can also choose to purchase autographs or one-on-one video chats for up to $95.

For more information on that one, visit galaxycon.com.

The regular stuff

  • First up, if you just want to watch Star Trek with some company, then Star Trek: Netflix Party is for you. It’s hosted daily and coordinated on Facebook; every evening, they use the Netflix Party Chrome extension to watch Star Trek together. To find out more, head over to Star Trek: Netflix Party on Facebook.

  • Every Thursday, it’s time for Cocktails with Kate in the Time of Coronavirus. Kate Mulgrew hosts a private, virtual Zoom happy hour with 6 fans, and you can enter to be invited. To enter, says Mulgrew on Twitter, “Please write no more than 3-4 sentences about how this period of enforced isolation has changed you, your life, and your perceptions of our society, and send your submissions to cocktailswithkate@gmail.com. Every week I will choose six of the best submissions and invite those people to a Zoom meeting, where we will pour a glass of wine (or your chosen spirit!) and have a nice chat. Perhaps some of my Trek friends will drop by and join us! You never know who may pop in.” Submissions for this week’s call are closed, but you can get in with a chance for next week; the deadline is noon on Tuesdays, eastern time.

  • Then, of course, there are the Twitter watchalongs:

    • #allstartrek runs Sunday through Friday at 8/7C and follows the Heroes and Icons Channel’s All Star Trek programme.

    • #TOSSatNight starts at 9pm PT on Saturday night and follows a different episode of the Original Series every week, and

    • #StarTrekHour is a Q & A-format event, every Tuesday at 1pm PT.

  • Finally, don’t forget about the Trek Nation watchalong with the “Sons of Star Trek”, Rod Roddenberry and Adam Nimoy. That takes place this Friday, May 29th, at 6pm PT on Facebook. Hit up facebook.com/roddenberry for more.

If you have an online event or gathering you’d like me to promote on the show, let me know! How are YOU getting together with your fellow Trekkies, without leaving the house?

Send me an email to let me know, at info@dailystartreknews.com. Tell me what you’re doing to keep the fandom alive, even as we’re all mostly staying in.
