Star Trek events: Thursday, October 22nd - Wednesday, October 28th, 2020

Life is short. Do stuff that matters. Like hanging out with Trekkies. We’re a good bunch.

As the days get colder and the nights get longer, it’s harder and harder to get out and about. Which is why it’s really great news that we seem to only get more and more virtual Star Trek events each week. Get out your calendars, because here goes…

Fans of Ricardo Montalban will want to tune into this first one: the Cook Memorial Public Library District out of Illinois is hosting an online multimedia presentation celebrating what would have been his 100th birthday year. They say, “Celebrate what would have been Montalban’s 100th birthday by learning about how his off-screen life was even more remarkable than his impressive Hollywood career.” The presentation takes place tonight, Thursday, October 22nd, at 6:30pm CT, and features rare pictures and research conducted over 12 years by sociology professors John and Maria Jose Tenuto.

Registration is free, but required, and you can find out more by going to the Events page at cooklib.org.

Star Trek Bible Study - Monday, October 26th

Then next Monday, October 26th, join in with Star Trek bible study. Dust off your bible and the Prime Directive to join fellow Trekkies Josh and Gillian as they play sommelier between episodes of Deep Space 9 and the Bible. On the last Monday of October, November, and December, they’ll watch and discuss an episode of DS9, cross-referencing it with passages of scripture and their own life experiences.

The meeting takes place over Zoom and a chat app while watching the episode, and it’s free. You can get more information by emailing star-trek-bible-study@googlegroups.com.

Star Trek - Science Fiction vs. Science Fact - Wednesday, October 28th

Gearing up for Halloween now, and next Wednesday, October 28th, at 8pm ET, the Ohio State University Department of Astronomy, with the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics, are hosting an online panel discussing the science of Star Trek. Uniforms and other Halloween costumes are encouraged and there will be a costume contest!
