Star Trek Las Vegas postponed to 2021, no longer the Official Star Trek Convention
The Star Trek Las Vegas convention has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Creation Entertainment, the organizers of the convention, announced yesterday that the event, which was scheduled for December 9 - 13, 2020, will now take place August 11 - 15, 2021, at the Rio All-Suites Resort Hotel and Casino.
In a statement, Creation said, “During this pandemic crisis, Creation Entertainment remains steadfast in keeping the health and safety of our attendees, celebrities and staff as our top priority. While we had hoped to present our Official Star Trek Convention [this year], due to ongoing local, federal and international protocols, we are unable to do so.”
It’s not just the date and the venue that’s changed though; it looks like the convention has also lost it’s “official” status. Later in the same statement, Creation revealed that they would be renaming the convention “Creation Entertainment Presents The 55-Year Mission Tour”. They said that they’ll still have the celebrity guests and other convention programming, but, they said, “CBS is not an official partner of this event.”
This year’s Star Trek Las Vegas convention has, like most other in-person events, suffered because of the pandemic. They continued selling tickets for the regularly scheduled August event into early summer, and it wasn’t until June that they officially postponed. The convention was moved from August to December, and changed venues from The Rio to the new Caesar’s Forum Conference Center. The loss of “official” status is another blow, but if Creation can still maintain the high quality of programming that they’ve had in prior years, then it should still be a popular event.
So what happens to fans who were intending to make the journey to Vegas this December? Creation says that if you have already bought 2020 tickets, you don’t need to do anything. Your tickets and seating will get transferred to new, 2021 tickets. Gold and Captain’s Chair ticket holders who transfer to the 2021 dates are also eligible for additional complimentary bonus gift certificates of $200 and $100 respectively.
If, instead of transferring to the 2021 event, you’d like to cancel, you can request a refund. But hurry, the deadline for refund requests is October 27th at 3pm PT. For all the details for ticket holders, or to just read the full announcement for yourself, please visit creationent.com.
