Star Trek: Lower Decks’ and The Boys’ Jack Quaid cast in upcoming Scream reboot
Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Ensign Boimler, Jack Quaid, is going from strength to strength in Hollywood. In addition to starring in Lower Decks as well as Amazon’s The Boys, he will soon be appearing in the reboot of Scream, from Paramount Pictures.
According to a piece in Variety, it’s unclear who Quaid will play in the new film, which is expected to debut in January of 2022. But the reboot has already pulled in some big names, including original Scream stars Courteney Cox and David Arquette, reprising their roles as Gale Weathers and sheriff Dewey Riley.
The Scream franchise began in 1996 with a comedy-horror film starring Neve Campbell and a host of other well-known actors like Drew Barrymore, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan and Matthew Lillard. The combination of creator Kevin Williamson (he of Dawson’s Creek fame) and veteran horror film director Wes Craven made for a stunning success of a movie. It held the spot as the top-grossing slasher film for over 20 years, until it was unseated by 2018’s Halloween, starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The latest Scream entry with Quaid will be the fifth in the series.
Filming on the as-yet-untitled Scream reboot is expected to begin in North Carolina later this year. Until then, you can catch Quaid in his role as Ensign Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks, now streaming on CBS All Access.
