Star Trek Online celebrates its 11th Anniversary with new Klingon-focused content, prizes and more!

Star Trek Online celebrates its 11th anniversary with new content and exclusive prizes

JANUARY 26, 2021 - Get ready for another epic event in Star Trek Online: the game’s 11th Anniversary celebrations start today!

The Anniversary event is a - wait for it - annual tradition for the massively-multiplayer online role-playing game, with minigames galore, the opportunity to earn fantastic prizes, and of course, a new commemorative in-game party popper. And this year’s event is no different, combining with the Star Trek Online’s Year of Klingon to provide a big boost of content for PC players suffering a post-holiday depression.

The event runs today through February 25th on the PC, with console event dates to be announced later. Here’s just some of the content we know will be coming out, and we’re likely to know about even more when the game’s maintenance completes later this morning.

First up, the event ship, which players can earn by completing daily missions, will be the Tier 6 Temer-class Alliance raider. There are also two new featured episodes coming, “Knowledge is Power” and “Leap of Faith”. Star Trek: Picard is getting a look-in during this event, too: the latest lockbox is the Zhat Vash lockbox and features an array of Romulan-themed prizes. The lockbox grand prize is a Tier 6 Dhailkhina Command Strike Wing Warbird, a flagship of the Zhat Vash fleet.

There’s a good Klingon focus in this year’s event, which brings three pretty big developments. You will now be able to play as a Discovery-era Klingon. There’s a Klingon recruitment event that gives you extra benefits and rewards for starting a new Klingon character. And something that will benefit all players, but particularly Klingons (and other non-Federation factions): all captains will be able to fly any ship, regardless of the default allegiance associated with that ship. All this, on top of the other great content that’s already been created as part of the “Year of Klingon” initiative.

Finally, there’s the other stuff that long-term players know and love: the Omega mini-game, one of the best places to earn high-quality gear upgrades, and of course, a new party popper. The 11th Anniversary announcement says this about this year’s popper: “The 11th Anniversary version of our annual toy-device invokes the furious celebration of Gre’thor! Flames and Fek’Ihri runes erupt so the whole universe may know extremely safe merriment, and if occasionally more than flames emerge, well, the more the merrier!”

Star Trek Online is a free-to-play MMORPG and is available for PCs, Xbox One and Playstation 4 (although the anniversary event will be out later on consoles). You can find out more and download the game at startrekonline.com, or in the Microsoft or Playstation store.
